Wasted-steps calculator
Turn the time cooks and waiters spend walking for nothing into money: how much salary a month goes on walking.
What does this tool do? Shows how many manats of wages a month your cooks’ and waiters’ empty walking costs — it helps you decide whether moving equipment is worth it.
How it works
- At peak time, watch one person for 30 minutes and draw their empty trips as lines on a paper floor plan.
- Enter the staff count, empty walking per day and hourly wage (example: 3 cooks, 40 minutes a day each, 6 ₼ an hour, 26 working days).
- Result: in the example 312 ₼ a month and 3,744 ₼ a year go on empty walking — move the fridge or service table closer and measure again.
How much do you pay for empty steps?
Observe for 30 minutes during a shift and enter your own numbers.
The total of empty trips you found while observing.
Don’t know the hourly wage? Work it out from the monthly salary
How do you measure extra walking?
- 1.Draw a simple plan of the kitchen or dining room on paper.
- 2.At peak time, pick one person — a cook or a server.
- 3.For 30 minutes, connect every trip they make with a line on the plan.
- 4.Count the thickest lines: between which two points, how many times, how many seconds?
- 5.Convert the empty trips to a daily figure and enter it here. Measure again after one change.
DK Agency advice
Before hiring one more person, draw one person’s 30-minute route on paper. Often you are not short of people: the fridge is too far, the bin is in the wrong place, there is no service station. Moving one piece of equipment costs less than one salary.
