McKinsey: Global energy demand will increase by 20% by 2040

According to the forecast announced at McKinsey's webinar dated October 8, 2026, global energy demand increased by 2.7% in 2025 and will rise by 20% by 2040. Based on the company's calculations, spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure will reach 758 billion dollars in 2026, while data center capacity may increase 6.5 times by 2035.

It was also stated at the webinar that electricity prices in the European Union are 120% more expensive than in the US. Airlines will face a 70% increase in fuel costs in 2026, and ticket prices are likely to rise. By 2050, annual investment of 443-970 billion dollars will be required in grid infrastructure.

These figures are a direct cost signal for the hotel and catering business: as energy and transport become more expensive, guest flow and operating costs change. Although electricity and heating costs in Azerbaijan are not yet at European levels, price increases in international travel and the supply chain reach local hotels indirectly.
