The 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Central Asian states is being held in the city of Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan. The agenda of the meeting, which brings together the region's leaders, focuses on new opportunities for political, economic and transport cooperation.
The Consultative Meeting format was first held in 2018 in Astana, Kazakhstan. To date, 7 official and 1 informal meetings have taken place. Even before Azerbaijan fully joined this format, it consistently developed its ties: President Ilham Aliyev participated in the 5th meeting held in Dushanbe in 2023 and the 6th meeting held in Astana in 2024.
In Eurasia, the directions of economic and transport links are changing rapidly: the search for new trade routes and the transportation of energy resources via alternative routes bring interregional cooperation to the fore. In this context, the Caspian basin occupies a special position as the geographic line connecting East and West.
